About Derrick - Massage Therapist

My name is Derrick and I've been working as a Massage Therapist in Walnut Creek for over 10 years.

I'm also a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant and have been working in California for the last 15 years; achieving amazing results for my clients in both endeavors.

During my career as a certified massage therapist, I've worked with an enormous amount of people contending with painful neck and shoulder pain.

Over the years, I've learned deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy and host of other massage techniques, that address the the whole body to give you long term results; especially if you suffer with tension headaches.

Why Do I Specialize in Neck and Shoulder Pain?

More and more of you have to contend with the Bay Area traffic, struggle to find comfort at your computer (for work or play) and have to discover some sort of accordance with everyday stress.

As a massage therapist, I see the same Defensive Posturing manifesting predominately in the neck and shoulders, as a result to the stressful environment we now live in.

Ever hear the term "wearing your shoulders as earrings?"

When you get stressed, afraid, worried, anxious or even excited, the shoulders often tend to rise up and engage the muscles in your upper back, shoulders and neck.

When your muscles are overused, they tend to shorten, which inhibits blood flow and your body's ability to heal itself.

When you're on my table, I can literally feel how you hold your stress. It's amazing when I can feel all that bound up stress dissolve.

It never ceases to be exciting for me when I can help my clients find relief from their chronic pain issues.

However, I can't possibly emphasize enough that pain in the upper body doesn't always originate there.

Sometimes we compensate for hip pain or tired, overused legs and that's why you hold your shoulders so rigid.

There's no one size-fits-all approach when comes to the human body. That's why I always assess your whole body before spending time or energy focusing on the triggers that refer pain or cause your muscles to be tight.
